Fused Glass and Flameworked Jewellery

All the fused glass jewellery is made up of 3 layers of fusible glass. The special colour effects are developed by using a mixture of DICHROIC glass between the base and clear layers. Dichroic glass has an unusual property which is that it can reflect one colour whilst transmitting another, thus the name which means ‘two colours’. It is one of the most expensive glasses due to its manufacturing process which involves spraying a fine chemical layer on the glass in a controlled manner.

The exciting colour variations can be seen by holding the jewellery at different angles as the light reflects or is transmitted.

Lampwork beads are made on a mandrel from Italian Effetre glass rods using a torch. Once made each bead is then fully annealed in the kiln to a temperature of 517degC.
